Lower Sanctuary
Heart of Community and Daily Practice
The Lower Sanctuary rests at the gentle base of the mountain, surrounded by greenery and the calm energy of daily life. This area is the heart of Meditation Island, where the main Dhamma Hall, dining area, library, café, and most kutis are located. It’s a place where practice and community come together in a peaceful rhythm.
Here, retreat participants gather for morning and evening meditation, share simple meals, and take part in mindful activities that support both the island and one another. The natural setting, open spaces, and thoughtful design create an atmosphere of ease and connection, allowing mindfulness to flow naturally into every moment.
Life at the Lower Sanctuary reflects the spirit of Meditation Island itself — simple, grounded, and in harmony with nature and the Dhamma.
Electricity is powered mostly by the sun, and the food comes from the island itself: fresh vegetables, coconuts, fruits, and local catches from the sea. The air is clean, the stars are bright, and even the smallest routines such as washing, cooking, and walking become mindful moments of presence.
Visitors are invited to live simply too, to rise early, eat with awareness, help with small daily chores, and spend quiet time in reflection or meditation. In this way, life on the island becomes a living practice of mindfulness, gratitude, and connection.
Koh Phaluai is not just a place you visit. It is a way of life you experience — peaceful, natural, and real.
